Danceable art // This premium wrap chiffon ballet skirt is cut to the classic DBA shape then roll-hemmed and tied with stretch herringbone elastic. Each design is hand painted in my studio, digitally printed in the UK then sewn by a talented team of freelance costume makers. It will fit you beautifully and last a lifetime.
Sizing // Prints vary according to skirt length, to create the most flattering design. Please check the coloring of the length you order.

For the studio or sea // With a boat neck, open back and double-lined front panel this bodysuit is designed to be beautiful yet supportive, based on my experience as a professional ballet dancer and enthusiastic wild swimmer. Its feel-good fabric, made from recycled plastic, provides shape retention, two-way stretch and muscle control as well as resistance to chlorine, UV and oils.
COMMITMENT AS CONSCIOUS CONSUMERS // The World Economic Forum projects that there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans by 2050. The DBA bodysuit uses fabric made from 78% recycled bottles - a truly sustainable material that also offers shape retention, two-way stretch and muscle control as well as resistance to chlorine, UV and oils. The DBA bodysuit is digitally printed in the UK, in small batches that minimize wastage.

My latest illustrated collection comprises of ballet skirts, bodysuits and silk scarves - Useful and versatile pieces for the dance studio, the ocean and everywhere in-between. Pieces created for escapism, inspired by the wonders of the natural world and created in an environmentally considerate manner.

SOMEFISH//
My inspiration
For the escape artists // It was while dancing for Staatsballett Berlin that I was struck by Sea Fever: ‘I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide…’. John Masefield’s poem reflected a longing to reconnect my life in theatre with the wonder of the wild. This feeling inspired my first collection of wearable art – Somefish – immersing us in a jewel-toned underwater world.
THEIR STORY
Alice founded DESIGNED BY ALICE during her decade as a professional ballerina. She craved clothing that would act as an extension of her art form: outwardly expressing inner artistry while beautifully accentuating movement. Combining skills in product design with her lived experience of dance, Alice began to craft unique ballet skirts, bodysuits and accessories for herself, and quickly others. Now based in London, her studio creates wearable art for dancers, wild swimmers, or anyone dressing to express themselves.
THEIR PRODUCTS
Collections are inspired by the natural world, from clouds to coral reefs, using illustrations hand-painted by Alice that capture the beauty of the passing seasons. Her production process is just the opposite, giving conscious customers lifelong pieces that transcend fast fashion. Every detail is ethically considered, starting with recycled materials through to carbon-neutral shipping, and a portion of profits are donated to charities including The Butterfly Conservation Trust and Marine Permaculture.
